…THEN YOU WIN! NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE PRAISES RON PAUL! SO DOES REASON!

National Review did not have too much nice to say about Cong. Ron Paul in the 2007-08 primary season.  i was very upset at the increasingly neo-con tone of my old tome I would go and read in the Wright State library when I got the chance!   (I read Human Events, too!)  But this from Robert Costa is astounding:

Paul hopes to do even better this time around. Last month, he announced that he would once again seek the GOP presidential nomination. He enters the contest as a nationally known name, a fundraising powerhouse, and most importantly, no longer a fringe figure.

“That is the difference between now and four years ago,” Paul says. “When it comes to practical politics, the face of the party has changed. Any place we go, I get invited to Republican meetings. Before, we had to have our own meetings, or we might have been excluded.

Even the polling numbers are better and can still go up!

Beyond the pockets of Paul supporters popping up in local GOP organizations, polls show the Texan ready to rise. A Gallup survey late last month had him at 10 percent, seven points behind frontrunner Mitt Romney. A CNN poll released that same week had him at 12 percent, just three behind Romney.

Paul has not changed his vision or his positions; rather it is the nation that is beginning to come to his positions!  It is rare that anyone in politics can actually be ahead of the move of the mainstream; Cong. Paul cannot say he alone changed the course of American politics, but his positions were seem as more relevant and necessary in 2012 than in 2008.  The economy and the election of President Obama showed the failure of statist, socialistic solutions.  Be encouraged; Paul can win in 2012!

Even some on the left admire Ron Paul.  Here is a great article from Reason magazine:

Ron Paul by now is well-known for many things, yet he remains an underrated retail politician. Paul has the extraordinary distinction of having won a seat in Congress as a nonincumbent on three separate occasions. After fighting his own Republican Party to regain a House seat in 1996 (the GOP establishment preferred a turncoat Democrat in the primary), Dr. No has won re-election in the 14th Congressional District of Texas by progressively larger margins in every campaign but one. In 2004 and 2008 the Democratic Party didn’t bother running a candidate against him. All this even though Paul eschews such fail-safe political gambits as co-sponsoring (or even voting for) spending bills that benefit his constituents and makes a point of directly challenging such modern Republican notions as an ever-expanding warfare state—all while representing what he characterizes as a Bible Belt conservative stronghold.

Brian Doherty discounts Paul’s chances of victory but treats Paul as something like the abolitionists – agitators for liberty:

But the agitator isn’t letting that get him down, no matter how despondent his fans might get contemplating his predicted economic chaos and collapse of the dollar. The task is hard, because “the idea of liberty is not a natural condition of mankind.” Freedom’s victory, Paul writes, “could happen in our time”; then again, “it might happen after we are gone from this earth.” But he is sure it will happen, and both despite and because of Paul’s peculiarities, his work is moving that victory closer.

I suggest Paul can win!  With the implosion of the Gingrich campaign, the decision by several (Daniels, Huckabee, Trump among others) not to run, and issues like Libya rising in importance, Ron Paul seems to gain statute.  The next debate is Monday, June 13.  I can’t wait.  Get the popcorn out.  Maybe a certain blogger will find a remote location for viewing…
